Are you looking for a Clinical Psychologist in Manchester?

Let’s face it, the world of therapy can feel complex and overwhelming from the outside. There are so many different types of therapy and therapists and so it can be hard to know where to start. To try and help you with this, I’ve written a guide about How to choose the right therapist. This can provide you with a starting point and advice on how to find a therapist that is right for you.

When people choose to see a clinical psychologist usually this is for a number of reasons. Firstly, they may have a level of complexity to their difficulties and they want the highest level of expertise to help to address this. Typically people have had therapy before and mostly have found this helpful, and may want an additional level of expertise this time around. Sometimes people have medical insurance which covers seeing a clinical psychologist, in which case it makes complete sense to take this option.

What kinds of problems can you help with?

I work exclusively with adults and offer psychological therapy. My specialist areas of expertise are:

Psychological trauma

I work with many clients who have experienced trauma. This includes single incident and multiple traumas, including childhood trauma.

Self-esteem including

  • Perfectionism & imposter syndrome
  • When our self-esteem is challenged by life transitions such as illness, work transitions, becoming a parent, or by loss.
  • Understanding and embracing our own unique characteristics (including creativity and introversion)

The psychological impact of physical health including

  • Living with a cancer diagnosis or long-term condition
  • Psychological trauma in medical/surgical settings
  • Coping with long term health conditions
  • Loss and grief
  • Working with family members of those with physical illness

Aside from these specialist areas I work with a range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, bereavement, adjustment and difficulties related to work.

What therapies do you offer?

I don’t believe that there is a ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to therapy. I tend to work flexibly to find the right approach for you. For some clients this is more structured and for others sessions are very unstructured, depending on your needs and preferences.

I am an Accredited EMDR practitioner and often use this approach with clients when it is suitable. For more information check out my blog posts EMDR: a guide for clients and What is EMDR accreditation and why is it important?

As well as EMDR, I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), coaching and positive psychology approaches.

What happens when I see a psychologist?

I’m always aware that the first session can be overwhelming for clients and it’s my job to make you feel comfortable and to begin to understand your difficulties. To help you prepare for the first session I’ve written this guide What can I expect when seeing a psychologist?

Where do you practice?

Mostly I offer online sessions as this tends to be more efficient than face to face appointments both for me and for the client. Sometimes clients are concerned that they will not get as much out of online sessions but this is not my experience.

I hold a monthly face to face clinic at The Blend Centre in Sale, South Manchester. There is usually a waiting list for this clinic.

I completed my doctorate in Manchester and had placements across the city. Since qualifying I have worked locally for more than 10 years. In my experience, local knowledge can definitely be helpful during therapy.

How do I book in for sessions?

My session fees are £110 (online) and £130 (face to face). Sessions are 45-50 minutes.

It is important that prospective clients understand that therapy is about us working together as a team. You are the expert in you, and I can offer you expertise. Our success rests on how we are able to work together to achieve your desired outcomes. This will require a thorough assessment before us deciding together whether therapy is right for you.
